insurence too cheap??

Post by Giorgio »

I am looking to get insured on a 1.4 1998 Polo L, on my Dad's name. Hes got 5 years protected no claims. I have made sure every bit of detail is correct. I will be 17 will no years driving experience.

Confused.com gave me the following results.

Kwik-Fit Insurance ___£664.44
Insureandgo_________£677.25
Budget_____________£897.16
Dial Direct___________£902.07
Insureandgo_________£1198.44
Insure It All__________£1239.50
Insureandgo_________£1361.65
Insure It All__________£1478.64
Insure It All__________£1665.30

This quote is for fully comprehensive insurence with £350 excess.

I was expecting around the 1500 pound mark but £700 makes me think I got something wrong. I know people in a similar situation paying over £1000 for a 1.0 litre

How much (if you dont mind) did you pay for your first insurence??

Thanks in advance, Giorgio

It's cause you're on your Dads insurance mate. If you were on your own, then your expectations would be correct.

On my own insurance, fully comp was £1200 and I was 19....and that was cheap compared to all the other quotes I got :( Mine's a 1.3L BTW.

BUT there is a reason why its cheap. You won't build up any no claims at all as it's on your Dads policy....

Say like you drive for 5 years on that policy and don't crash, at the age of 22 you'll have 0 years no claim bonus.

just got my wife insured on her Polo 1.4 1998. She's always been on my insurance, so has no no-claims bonus.

She is 37, but got her insurance for £280 fully comp with 200 excess, which i was well happy at. I was originally being quoted around £600, but after looking around found LLoyds bank was the cheapest.

most of it depends on postcode, as I always say - it's very difficult to compare unless you live next door to each other. I moved 1/4 mile in Birmingham and the premium went up 20%

Yeh my insurance went down s**t loads when i moved house, because my new area is very private and well off so there is no theft.

I was getting quotes that were worth more than the car. I may just stay on my dad's name and spend the extra cash.

Cheers people.

i spent the first year of my driving on my dads insurance then i bought a new car and went on my own insurance!
paid £1700 fully comp with no NCB!! they really stitched me up aswell! that was on a seven grand car (1.5year old mk5 1litre).
went down a shed load the next year when i changed companies (who were mod friendly aswell)
now i'm paying around £650 with 3yrs NCB on a 1.9tdi sport ibiza (its group 6/7) . the area i live in ain't the best so it may still be a bit high i guess. will see wot happens when i renew in march.
