Hi
Is the 1.0 ltr polo known for heavy slow speed steering.
I use a VW Transporter and a Jaguar both with with power steering, the Polo is my wifes car she seems to manage all right but I feel like a wimp when I drive it.
The question is what could be wrong if anything and will she start knocking me about as she is obviously stronger than me.
Heavy steering
what year of 1litre polo do you mean? the pre 94 (old shape) didn't have PAS so does feel really heavy if your not used to it, if it's after, and it should have PAS then you might have a problem, but it does help slightly to check your tyre pressures as randall said, and just try not to dry steer, even if your moving just slightly it helps no end.

Going from power steering to normal steering is always going to feel heavy at low speeds, however much lighter the car is than your usual car. You get used to it pretty quickly if you drive it regularly, you also get used to how to drive it properly, ie never try to turn the steering wheel when stationary, always keep the car moving when you're doing a manouver, it makes a big difference.
And yeah, make sure your tyres are pumped up properly, makes a huge difference.
