Alloys making noise, any ideas?

Post by wesley666 »

Another question lol, just bought some alloys fitted them myself and after few days steering wheel started shaking so took them to garage to be balanced all sorted.

But now i can hear a noise whilst i'm driving it sounds like a rattling of some kind and its coming from the side of passenger side door around wheel area hard to tell exactly as am driving when i hear it

Am i being paranoid and should just turn music back up as all alloys make this noise or is this serious? any suggestions?

Sorry description is a bit vague just cant but it into words lol

Maybe one of the wheel weights is fouling the brake caliper.

Did they use stick on weights?

The alloys are brand new like 3 weeks old now, somesone told me it could be my brake drums causing the noise

Just fitted wheels cant be bothered to take them off again lol

I bet it's not the wheel, something else - but check all bolts etc around the wheel

perhaps something is trapped in your door?

If they're alloys the chances are they are stick on weights which look like this

Image

dotted around the inside and outside edges of the wheel. There won't be as many as that ^^ just one or two of the little segments at a time. They're stuck on with adheasive, so look for any marks etc.

Check to see how close the brake caliper comes to the wheel spokes etc, might not be this at all but just check quickly.

Hope this helps, and let us know what the problem is - if you find it!

brakes

Ahh found the weights yeah just a few no probs there but i looked at my brake disk, the bit the pads touch. Grabbed it and i rocked slightly went to other side where there is no noise and it does not rock.

so me thinks this is the cause of the problem

How do i stop that from rocking i havent touched it so dont know why its loose, any ideas?

So the disc isn't held on properly? :?

Try tightening up your wheel bolts.....

Your wheel holds the disc on

Well the disc can't fall off because the caliper holds it on, but it sounds to me as if the garage that balanced the wheels has left one of them a bit loose!

Might be an idea to tighten them up before you do any more driving

Not sure why else the brake disc could be loose :?

tightened

Post by wesley666 »

Just tightened them up they were already tight slight turn in one and went round block still heard noise

So unwound window and stuck head and most of body out of window while dirving (ace ventura style) and its def coming from that wheel and yeah sounds like a loose nut but its not.

When i stopped looked at disk again and it does still move back and forwards slightly and also clockwise and anti clockwise like a few cm's even though my nuts are tight suggestions? :?
