Book top speed is 107mph I seem to remember. 0-60's not shocking either, 12secs IIRC

the 0-60 is around 11 seconds I think its 10.5 to 60, 11.1 to 62 The decatted version of the GT was supposed to have 78bhp! Those cats are restrictive top end.

With a GT it's not about the bare stats; there're revvy wee things out of the box and are a laugh to drive, you can't help but have a giggle. A 6n 1600 has near as damnit the same book figures but is a totally different kettle of fish to drive being all torque and no top end. In that respect I'd even venture to say that a standard GT is more fun than a standard G40.

Well put. I have a 1.6 Escort (90bhp) for my daily runner, and the performance is pretty much in line with a Polo GT, but the Polo is way more fun to drive.

The main thing I find with GT's is, being an 8V, the powerband is so accessible, usable acceleration is there from 1500rpm, in my 16V escort, I need to be at 3000rpm before I get anything serious.

Yeah, a more realistic set of figures would be 10.5 for 0-60 and top ends vary. Had mine on 118.

They love to rev, torque is sweet in such an unassuming car. Very quick, nippy cars. Lots of fun - like a gokart!
