Stereo... Or not...

Post by Bucky1.6glx »

Hi folks. Been having some problems with my stereo and i'm hoping some one out there can help out.
In last 2 months I've had 3 different head units in my 96 1.6glx, the first was admittedly getting on a bit and the flip front decided to stop working one day. Timing was less than perfect so I purchased a second hand one from a chap at work. Problem solved I thought! Or not... Worked fine for a couple of weeks untill suddenly it started playing up as well and wouldn't switch on. Strangely the LED (with face removed) would still blink (as if igniton was off) even when ignition was on, unless (very weird) the lights where turned on... So, I got another head unit, which I dutifully removed from the donor car (cheers dad!) and clicked in the ISO connectors with baited breath only to find that won't switch on either! Grrr... I've already checked the fuse in rear of head unit and the blade fuse in car but both look good.
Anyone got any suggestions? Oh and are ISO connectors and head unit looms universal? because first 2 where kenwood and last is Alba.
Cheers for taking the time to read this folks, I know it's a touch long winded!

dude the head units shud just plug and play with the iso adaptor! im not sure whats causin your problems if you have checked the fuse you may need an iso adapter but ive never used one but ive only ever run sony head units! altough thinkin bout it my dad has a jvc in his golf and my mum a panisonic in hers and they all work good without adapters! if the units work fine in your dads car its gonna be your car or possibly its wiring dont really know without havin a look!

mate....

1stly.... is it the original loom in the car? or has it been chopped and changed? if so, id advise you re-wire or see a local audio shop.

if its standard, check that all connections in the iso are solid and not loose. also check the wires for any breaks/cuts as it could be shorting....

and finally.... check all your earthing. i had a constant problem with interference with my polo when i got it. i changed earthing straps around the car and it was fine after. you may want to consider earting the stereo froma different point....

No idead mate. Can't get the dam thing to turn on. Most I can get is the security LED on and that's only on constant when the lights are switched on...

defo sounds like u got some crossed wires somwhere.....

id double check it all....

if all fails.... just get it fitted, shouldnt cost more than 20 quid tops....and the'yll sort the problem too, just tell them u want this fitting into the car, let them deal with the rest....

You may want to check the power lead between the headunit lead which goes to the back of the fuse box > may need replacing as i had a dead lead in one of my cars
