I havnt really noted down oil consumption but i find the dipstick to give some weird readings sometimes. I can check the oil (car engine cold and on a flat surface) and it wil show halfway between min and max, leave the car 5 mins or so and it will be almost to the max line. It seems to take ages for the oil to settle.

Probably uses 250ml every couple of thousand miles, more if i regularly rev it over 6000rpm (fast overtaking).

Mine doesn't use any noticeable amount, I've never had to top it up and i'm on 77k miles, although I do change the oil quite often

Upper cylinder lubrication and hi compression mean that on this engine and its 16V brothers may well require frequent topping up, even from new. Mine uses about a cup full in 2000 miles. The engine can use anything up to 1.5 litres per 1000km and still be in specification! So 1/2 small cup every 1000 miles or so is perfectly normal, no consumption at all is a much larger worry, because it means that its not doing its job in the bores properly.

Nothing to worry about, just check it frequently, never over fill.

Strangely, as the honing wears down and the engine becomes high mileage, the consumption sometimes drops. The honing pattern is supposed to hold oil, but it wears off eventually. The engines peak is usually around 35k - 70k.
