Engine Wash

Can anybody post a photo of all the electrical parts that need to be cover when you need to wash the engine, I have 1.6 Polo Sedan and thinking on taking it to my local car wash tomorrow but want to take precaution to cover the delicate electronic components, if you have any additional suggestions your comments are most appreciated.

why dnt you just get a rag and some cleaning products and do it yourself u lazy s**t

i'd either do it by hand using engine degreaser or don't bother, it's only gonna get messy again as soon as you drive over a puddle. i've heard alot of people complain about engine cleaning places

I plan to continue washing it by hand afterwards but in the mean time I want to get it wash with a water pressure gun, my problem is not only grease, is also dust, it hasn't been clean since 6+ months ago, regarding your suggestions on why get it clean if itâ€™s going to get dirty again, where I live It will not rain until another 5 months so itâ€™s a great time to get the engine cleaned.

All Iâ€™m asking is to suggest what places must not get wet.

The best i can say is poke your head around he engine and cover up anything that has wires.

I'm not sure if you've seen an engine of a MK6, it has wires all over the place with electronical devices everywhere, but anyways thanks for the suggestions, I will be carefull and hope nothing gets damage.

Dont risk it.

If you get water in places it should'nt be you are running the risk of shorting things and causing sensors to read wrong. In a modern petrol engine its not worth it, especially if you don't even know what bits to cover.

I often clean my engine bay, just use a rag with some soapy water (or engine degreaser) and another rag to dry it all off with. Then finish with some armorall matt finish plastic polish (or similar).

If you do decide to use a pressure washer a good idea is to use foil to cover up bits because it molds around things easy, that and lots of plastic bags with elastic bands.

Thanks for your post, at the end I decided to take it to VW Repair shop to get the engine clean and some other stuff I wanted to repair, this way I will guarantee that the job is done properly, will continue to clean it periodically taking your suggestion in mind, thanks!
