Problems Problems

Post by Silva_B!tch_Owner »

I have a 1.4 SE Manual

Was driving on the A2 motorway goin towards Gravesend and my car just conked out, pulled over, had to get a recovery truck to come and he said the timing belt had gone. Got it towed to the mechanics and he phoned me not to long ago and told me the 12 Valves of the 16 are broken or something. He's taken the head off and the tensioner went or broke. So there is a bit of work to be done.

Quoted me £700 to fix it.

Im so pissed off! Becos the day before i was due to take it to be serviced, as it was quite long over due.

Not sure what to do now, anyone else had this happen?

You don't mention your mileage?

The handbook suggests that the 60,000 mile service is the time when the timing belts need changing (inc. the tensioner and water pump) and it's a big job.

I was lucky, my tensioner failed (under warranty) and it didn't cause any major damage. Don't think there is much you can do other than stump up I'm afraid, or at least thats how I see it. Gutted :(

It has about 52k on the clock. Well i think ima have to pay for it as there aint much else i can do since i need my car for work. Havin to use my girlfriends Yaris for a few days woo hoo lol

The mechanic said he could have it ready by monday.

Only thing is theres other problems with it too, like some weird knockin noise comin from the front of the car, i think my suspension is f'd too plus my drivers side window doesn't wind down.

So all in all my car is pretty much in a state.

I would advise gettin the car serviced if it hasn't been done for awhile. They should pick up on these i believe.

Could be something around the £300-400 mark I think, judging by other user's posts about the subject? Without the timing belt work its about £150 ish, I think thats what I paid IIRC. The 60,000-mile service is one of the major ones, my most recent one (equivalent of 70,000-mile service) was an interim service so therefore cheaper.

Like polopowah, I want FVWSH with my car too. In theory they're the most qualified people to work on the car too... in theory...

That's why I'll pay for them to do it I think, looks good when you got FVWSH and receipts for work done, I know a lot of people ask that when they look at a car.

couldn't agree with you more, its easier to sell a car with it, especially when its been modded and even though alot of vw mechanics are monkeys!

Well kinda good news, spoke to the mechanic earlier, he's spent alot of time last night and today sorting my car and i should be able to pick it up tonight he said. its costing me £650 althogether. I'll get a list and a proper run down of whats been done and stuff later. Quite good seeing he had my car since Wednesday night.

Hopefully my car will be fixed. Im havin to drive my girlfriends Yaris for work
