if you had to brake sharply wouldn't the back end rise up like a seesaw with the wheels being almost in the middle? :?

 That vision made me laugh, I can picture that - approaching the traffic lights, sh!t! Red Light and you end up on your head.

In the mid-1980s there was a three-wheeled VW prototype called Scooter. I think that was back in 1985 or '86. It had a proper roof though, and if my memory isn't playing any tricks on me, I think it had gullwing doors.

I'll try to dig up a photo.

1986 (confirmed!) VW Scooter:

I remember this car had a very 80s interior, especially the seats with three blue bands of varying shades of blue. It was tested by Brazilian magazine Motor 3 (which disappeared in 1988!) in Germany. Very interesting article and test. The guy drove across Germany in the Scooter, with his wife (!) and their luggage (!!!!!).

Anyway the VW Student of 1982 (??) or 1984(??) (hey, I was just a little boy back then!) had more hints about (then) upcoming VW styling themes than the Scooter ('89 Passat front end).
