central locking playing up

Post by Big Nick »

Hi Guys,

Had a bit of a disaster today, my key got stuck in the driver door after locking up, and it wouldn't budge! I was just going in to work, and couldn't be late, so I forced the key, which came out, but now I cant lock the car from the drivers side. The central locking still works from inside the car, EG. if you push the door pin down, and the passenger side door can still lock/unlock the whole car, so I was wondering if it was an easy fix, or I it would be a PITA of a job.

Any resonses would be greatly appreciated,

Nick

My passenger lock barrel fell out so i took the door handle out to fix it and they have a mass of springs and clips. Bit of a nightmare job but its easy to take the door handle off. 1 Torx bolt and slide the whole handle forward and it will pop out. U can then remove the barrel and i reckon some of ur pins may have just got stuck so u can pop them back down, grease it up and shove it together.

Dunno if that helps

I’ve had the same problem mate, what u need to do is take the door handle off lock and replace a small brass part not sure what its exactly called but it links the lock to the central locking mechanism. My driver’s side one broke so I had to unlock my car from the passenger’s side, so I got many strange looks from people. The job shouldn’t take long about five minutes, I got my part for a local scrappy.

sounds like the same thing as me.. the eccentric has gone.

I was going to do the job myself, but the second time i took the handle out to open the door the mechanism to the catch fell off and it's too much hassle to take the lock and all the gubbins out as it's in soo many pieces. I've got it booked in with VW tomorrow to sort it properly.

Spot on fellas, thanks for the help. I should be able to find time to do it over the weekend, if this minx at work can leave me alone for an hour or two.
Oh, the joy of fit 19 yr old girls in the office
