Excuse my lack of all things car knowledge in advance, just got car back from 6th annual service from VW dealer (£186 ouch!). They've advised on a few things in fact £650 worth of repairs. Some I can arrange a mechanic friend to do such as change brake fluid/anti freeze change/radiator flush.
They've also advised on the cambelt and tensioner to be done which they say is £407.39, is this a fair price or should I take it to an independent VW garage to be done???
Also they've advised I need new bottom arm bushes and bump stops fitted, I'm looking into getting the Eibach Sportline kit fitted asap. If I get the parts can these all be fitted easily in one go? Anyone know the prices of bottom arm bushes and bump stops, have been advised to go for Powerflex bushes if anyone can comment on these...
Dont really want to spend alot as have just forked out £150 for a BMC!
Thanks in advance!
Advised Repairs - Cambelt + Tensioner, Bushes/Bump Stops
Re: Advised Repairs - Cambelt + Tensioner, Bushes/Bump Stops
Independant is the way to go. The cost of using my local independant ex VAG mechanic is nearly 1/2 the cost of a main dealer, plus I can supply my own parts as well. Main dealers will always say replace well in advance of what is actually required. The last service on my Polo cost me £200 from the main dealer and they even tried to charge me for screen wash when I had filled the bottle up to the rim just before I took it in
They can and often do use chimps to conduct minor work but still charge the same extortionate rate
