Hello all. my smashed GTI :(

First of all hello to everyone, i've been a member for ages and i've read the many posts but never actually posted myself (until now ) found many usefull posts sofar

I've had my GTI for about a year and a half, the best car i've had, can't beat the quality and speed for the size,price of the car IMO.

Anyway my car was hit by someone speeding along my road, hit my car which was parked up for the night and did alot of damage, they even managed to push the car onto the pavement and into the back of my dads car.

(You can just see my dads rover in background.Damage looks worse than piccy to be honest, the rear has trapped the wheel so isn't driveable.)

They also managed to drive off luckily someone seen the accident and took reg details, phoned the police etc.. and he got knicked for it. But now the repair place has said it will most likely be a writeoff with a bill over £4000 to fix the damage.

What kind of price am i looking at for the insurance to replace my car?

Appart form only having done 28000miles and being totally standard the car overall was a minter (ok it needed a clean ) i cannot find a GTI of a similar discription from a dealer anywhere which i pressume means they are quite a rare or very sort after car.

My mate just got a black gti yesterday, payed £5,500 same spec are yours, by the look of it. Looking @ 7k from a dealership though, which i would do if they are paying? Is the other guys insurance forking out or yours?

just found out the guy who hit me is not insured the car is a deffinately a write off.

Don't know what to do now i have no car to get to work, which is miles away, and i cannot claim for the time already lost form work or a hire car to get me to work, the legal protection that came with the insurance has said they cannot do anything to claim any monies of the person who hit me because he is not insured........ don't know why i bother with insurance myself if thats the case

The guy buys a car drives around uninsured and drunk and i or anyone who he hits has to pay out for this kind of scum, im' not a happy chap

Hi mate,

That’s bad news about your gti, with out sound like a circling vulture….I am after the 3rd rear brake light from a gti, and would you consider selling it to me? VW want £60 for a new one! If your insurance does declare your car a right off, I would buy it back, you could then split the car, a lot of gti parts are very sort after, i.e. xenon’s, wheels, interior, interior parts, engine, the list goes on.

Sorry to hear about your car. I would have probably started crying if that was my car. It takes ages to find one in the first place. Your right about insurance companies. They try and dodge out of paying out any way they can. What a load of crap. Anyway. Hope you find a new GTI or something else that you like.

Im affraid to say that if i had the guys registration and i was in the same situation, i couldnt help myself but take matters into my own hands, as far as im concerned hitting my GTi is just like hitting my girlfriend, except more expensive.

If i knew where he lived i think i wouldn't be able to stop myself from kicking the value of my car out of his scrawny hide and then some.

I took a pride in my car and yes i nearly cried when it happened, also nearly cried today when i went to collect my last bits out of the car it still looks soo nice even with a big dent in the back. Don't look as though i will get another GTI as good as this one so i will be looking for an alternative, which is a real shame cause these cars are so nice.

Also the police are saying they cannot do anything as it would compromise security of data or something along those lines. He has all the rights and i have to loose lots of money and my car..

you need to get in touch with the MIB. You may be able to recover some of your losses through them.

The law really is s**t when it comes to compensation from uninsured drivers. This is when it pays to be fully comp!

If you have the registration you can find out who it's currently registered to, and with a bit of detective work you may well get an address for the scumbag

Hi sorry to hear about your accident - I personally would track the bastard down and beat the sh!t out of him.

First check to see if your insurance policy covers legal expenses - if it does get a solicitor involved and take him to court. Your claim would be too large for small claims but you policy should cover you to reclaim the cost for repair plus recompense inconvenience caused, mental trauma etc via legal means. Even if your not covered would certainly be worth a trip to the solicitors. This route takes a while.
