The front only looked as though there was a couple of scratches, but all the grilles were pushed back and fogs to, must be more underneath as the car mine hit was a writeoff aswell (my dads car).

My insurances legal side has said they cannot claim against the driver for uninsured losses as he has no insurance himself

that seems to be a pretty lame excuse to me. I know my insurance is going to pay for the car but I have lost 2 days off work, I will loose a years NCB, have to pay excess then have a claim on my insurance details that i have to declare in the future (which will no doubt put my premium up).Oh well...

Gutted! Well at least you will get your money back (market value, anyway) but thats not really the point. Bloody uninsured drivers!

Its a shame something like that can happen right outside your house. I mean its hard to accept that your car has been written-off in the first place. But its even harder when you find that its been written-off outside your house.

Buy the car back and sell parts of it you'll make loads doin that!!

If you sell anything can i have the induction pipe which goes from the wing then off to the air box!!

I think if it was me, I'd be speaking to Police officers I've been aquainted with (not by being in trouble) to get his address, and I'd be going down to see him with a big adjustable spanner/wrench, hammer, or other suitable object.

I almost cried when someone scratched my front bump strip when they where parking, i followed them down the A1 and pulled them over...

Hi mate,

I had a skim read through all this....

Basically if its a write off.... Get what you can from the insurance as they will pay you what they think the car is worth (which is always a small amount maybe Â£2000) Anyways... Appeal against this decision and show a lot of evidence that infact the car is worth more. After they raise their amount offer to buy the car from them based on the fact that its a write off & you will fix it in order to be road legal (could cost you only Â£300 to buy it off them) then do all the repair work yourself.... when you've finished you'll need to call someone from dvla to come and investigate the car in order to confirm it is road legal (this will cost about Â£100)... So in the end you will get for example Â£2500 from insurance - Â£300 for buying it back from them, - Â£800? Repairs + dvla fees, and you will still have a drivable car still valued at Â£4500+

(Hopefully that made some sense to you)

yeah thats what im saying, insurance will take the p!ss with their offer so you have to appeal and be really consistent and provide lots of proof that its valued more even tho its blatantly obvious and they know this...

hey Nick , sorry to hear about your troubles mate.

Theres one thing that is puzzling me though, if you speak to the police involved, they will know who the car is registered to, if this is indeed the bloke or even someone he knows, you can always take them to a small claims court and sue them for the money owed. I think it costs around Â£50 odd to take someone there.

That way even if you DONT get your money or if someone else turns up, you could always get someone else to follow them home so that you know where they live, which is always good knowledge.

Again, really sorry to hear about all the trouble youve had, but where theres a will theres a way !!!

Trust me, take him to court if you can mate !!!! make his life as difficult as possible. . he did yours right?

sorry to hear about the car mate, mine is in the garage at the moment with bent valves etc and i thought that was bad, if i was you i would buy i Â£50 car and drive it through his living room
