well hopefully this will be of some help to you. i got a 26 piece polishing kit from www.thepolishingshop.co.uk this was the abrasive/finishing kit. it contains 80-240 gritt greasless compound and mops. along with grey green and blue polish bars. and mops.
i then went down to homebase and got me a assorted pack of sandpaper 60, 120, 200, 600 gritt papers.
so i removed the laqure with the 60 gritt and did most of the sanding by hand apart from the large flat surface by the center as the sanding mops were 4 inch and wont fit in the dish or anywhere.
so once i have wetsanded to 600 gritt and its looking shiney i dryed them off with a lint free cloth and rubbed in dome lime powder ( removes grease and moister from the surface( also drys your hands out so moisterise afterwards a bit camp i know but stops you looking like a old man for a few days after))
i then buffed out all my sanding marks with the grey compound and worked upto the blue polish bar. i then gave the wheels a good wash with meguires soft wash gel and dryed them following it up with a polish with belgom ALU motorcycle polish for alumium alloys topped off with DC3 canuba wax.
heres the results.
so heres a wheel before i attempted it.

after i attacked it with the sandpaper and polishing kit the center is nto done only the dish and the outer lip. also showing the bit of laqure i missed on teh first sand.

both those pics of the wheel on the car were after abotu 8 hours of graft. i have now compleated the wheel and given it the meguires treatment.
stage 1 blue polishing compound.
stage 2 Belgan ALU polish/wax ( for polishing motorcycle aluminum)
stage 3 Meguires DC3
i know thats 3 coats of different branded waxes. but stage 1 im unsure how long it will last before dulling. step 2 dulled my shine slightly abd step 3 braught it back up and it now looks sexy.

if you really want to give this ago yourself, i recommend the polishing kit from www.frost.co.uk i think its about £45.
Nice job on the ats cups, but if you get the kit i've mentioned you will be able to bring the shine up more finer.

i believe frost restoration catolouge does some eastwood clear laquer....although i'm not gonna bother on my polished alloys, just give them a wipe over with some metal polish every couple weeks...
if you have the patience to polish them your self then you'll probably wanna keep 'em looking like that even if it means cleaning them every so often

You can buy wheel wax from places like demon tweeks.
I've always used normal car wax on my polished alloys, as does my best mate who has mirror polished alloys and was a valeter by trade. I don't use normal wax though, I've got a pot of Zymol in the fridge
Buy some P21S wax and do your car and wheels with it...you'll be amazed at both!
