Dodgy screen demister

Post by frazzle »

Anyone had any problems with the screen demister on their Climatronic? The screen takes about 10 minutes to clear condensation - leaving my girlfriend no choice but to wipe the screen with Kitchen towel. When set at 'low' the fan speed is ok and you can feel the rush of air, when set at 'hi' the fan speed still sounds ok but there is less air coming through the screen vents - Anyone had this particular problem?

yep same here too. I've found that it helps to switch the dials on the dash for the heater vents to O (closes the dash vents off) It still aint brilliant but helps a little.

Yeup I have this problem, the main reason is that the aircon compressor does not operate under 4c. With this on the whole window will demiss in 30 seconds.

To get round this I override the 4c shutdown temperature of the compressor you can do this by putting the climatronic into its diagnostic mode. The reason the compressor is shutdown is to prevent it from freezing in low temps however the comprossor is about 10 inches from the exhuast manifold and I only override if for about 3-4 mins and I have never had any problems with the air-con in the 4 years I have owned the car, no other car maker I know does this. Your choice if you want to do this but here are the intructions how to do it

First you put the climatronic into its diagnostic mode by pushing econ, temp down & fan down at the same time

push the temp up button until the number above it goes to 4, this displays the outside temp on the lefthand side. You can increase by pushing the fan up button. You need to increase the temp above 4c I normaly put it to 6c. Your aircon will now operate if you press the window dismisss button or the auto button.

You can press the econ button to come out of the diagnostic mode, my car automatically puts the correct outside temp after driving for about 3 or 4 mins and the comporessor shutsdown again automatically.

As I say your choice if you want to do this, I also generally don't do it if the outside temp is under 0c. Another couple of handy options to get picking number 11 with the temp up button will show the temp inside the car, number 16 show the cars speed by default in km/h if you press the econ button and auto it will change it to mph.

I've started my car on many damp mornings and I dont suffer from this problem.

Maybe you guys should check your pollen filters if they are damp, or any blockages around the bulkhead.
no other car maker I know does this
My old vauxhall astra wouldn't turn the a/c pump on under 4°C either.
