I considered getting a Lupo GTI, Golf GTI, A3, Suzuki Cappuccino.
I know the last one might seem a bit stupid. But after driving one i really wanted one. Its such a fun car to drive.

also looked for golf Gti 1.8T, and was also looking a Civic Type R, but need 5 doors for impending arrival, and decided money could be spent better elsewhere at the moment!

The GTi was insurance group 11 last time I checked.
As for other considerations:
Audi A3,
Golf GTi Mk3 or Mk4,
Lupo GTi,
Land Rover Defender,
Toyota Hi-Lux pickup.

Didn't really consider anything else because of my age, and yeah GTi is Group 12

Almost too many to list. Always wanted a Polo GTi but considered:
Lupo GTi,
Ibiza Cupra(almost bought one)
206 GTi
Clio 182
Golf GT TDI(too expensive)
Cooper S(as above)
Punto HGT
