Weird Noise

Post by akzah »

Hey guys,

My polo is 1.4 CL P reg and its done about 43k miles. Its usually used for a long trip car (half way round the M25 and back).

Recently been using in the morning and evenings to get the station (about a mile away).

I hear a whiring sound when that car is around 30mph in 3rd gear and when its 27500rpm in 1st gear (in car park). The sound sounds like something is spinning.

On longer journeys I don't seem to notice it, though thats maybe cos the stereo is usually on then.

Any ideas on what it is and whether its serious?

Thanks in advance.

some of the more technical people may be able to help you more.

if its a squeeky sound it could be one of the belts in the engine bay ( overtentioned or slipping)

if its more of a whiring noise it will most likley the be comeing from your clutch mechanisum.

does the noise change pitch or get faster with revs. does it only pick up at certain speeds.

I had the same type of problem. Doesn't sound too loud or noisey, u just know it's not suppose to sound like that???
my prob was a gear box bearing failure.
:x Had to get a reconditioned gear box put in. Cost me a fortune, damn mechanics..

I'd get it looked at.
