Cars work better with petrol right?

Post by Mk2Adam »

ran out today, a colmination of having a leak in my petrol tank and a broken fuel guage finally took it's toll  got halfway home and it cut out in the middle of a busy junction  had to have a breakdown lorry pick me up and run me to a petrol station.

what did i learn?
always keep a jerrycan of petrol in the boot, especially when your tank is leaking.

p.s fuel guage measures the top half and then the bottom isn't shown, when i got to the bottom i did my milage button and i only got 58 miles out of what should have been £20 worth, so either my tank is leaking a lot worse than i thought or my guage isn't how i thought. :?

lol i had a similar problem last week. as ive fitted a lifter pump from the 38 litre tank, it reads it has juice when its all gone.. Luckily i was about 100 yards from the petrol station:S. some girl walkin had a good laugh as we pushed it passed her but i had the last laugh burning past her in the other direction 2 minutes later!! :) :)
lesson learnt.. keep a jerry can full.. but i havent learnt and keep takin the risk off the polo gauge! :P

Never ran out but been very close a few times. I call it fuel gauge roulette. I put 44 litres in my GT once, the tank must have been bone dry. :o

hahah classic... another poloer succumbs to the quintessential problems

the combination of the risk of filler neck rustage (which i eventually suffered, so thankfully i was prepared) and the dodginess of the fuel guage (red=reserve? no, lightly touching the red=NO MORE RESERVE!) means i've had a 5L spare supply of unleaded knocking round in my boot for the last few years now :)

try as i might i can't convince my other family members of the great benefit of this basic precaution. apparently my mother "doesn't have space" in her rover's enormous boot for a 15x15x30cm plastic canister that weighs all of about 4 kilos, and my bro just doesn't care, as he assumes there'll always be someone else around to bail him out like the arrogant tard he is.
me, i was just super f***ing glad i'd already had the problem once whilst city-bound, when i got caught out by it at 1am in a remote welsh valley with no torch, no mobile signal, and absolutely no clue where the nearest public phone was. on a road with no pavements, streetlights or even cats' eyes (roads which little bro also drives a lot).
