Tyres sizes...

Post by Nelson_Wilbury »

Just wanted to know, if I wanted to fit 15 inch wheels on my GT (I love saying that :P ) whats the best tyre size to go for?

I was thinking 195/45/R15's but I don't know if they'll rub with a 40 mil drop. Is it best to go for 195/40/R15's? I want a nice look which isn't going to sacrifice handling.

Or do you think I should scrap the 15 inch idea and go for 14's to keep the decent handling? :?

14" look to small if you ask me! 195/45/15's would be the right sizer for ur car! thats wot i'm running and is probably the most comon size on mk3's! i no that i seem to be the only one who has had problems with my alloys being to close to the suspension strut but only on one side! wierd! don't think that 40mm drop will mean having to make adjustments to ur arches but let me no cause i plan on lowering mine about that much!

anyone else got any ideas?

Congrats on the new car Neil.

On a side note, do 195 - 40 - 15 tyres even exist? Not having a go here, I was surprised at the existence of 195 - 40 - 17's just a few weeks ago.

you cant get 40 profiles...

however, i did see a car with 185/45x15's which would be lower profile than 195's...

on a side note my polo handled like arse on 15's.....

Sigh! This ideas out the window now due to the fact the car now needs some more mechanical work. To be totally honest I do like the Standard wheel trims anyway, just gotta get rid of these budget tyres!

Hopefully this topic will be of some use to someone :)

Have you thought about getting a hold of a set of BBS RA rims from a G40? They're 13" (5.5J x13") and run on 175/60HR13 tyres. A bit of an awkward size, but they'll not mess up the handling and give you a slightly larger footprint over the standard steel rims.

crikey, some increase over the standard 13" steels :D.... whats the overall rolling size in comparison with those (surely?) lower profile tyres on top of that?
can you still start a 1-litre off in 1st on a hill?

As far as I know the rolling radius shoudl be exactly the same as my old 13" steel rims, it's the footprint on the road that's going to be bigger.

I've got a fair idea of what the car will look like (these wre standard fir on the G40), but I don't know what the steering or the drain on the power will be. Still, I can always just use them for meets and shows?

:P
