I must be too old for a GTi, I've not hit anywhere near top speed - 115mph is my current best recorded top speed and although the car has got plenty left to give I'm paranoid of being caught out by the fuzz if I try for anything faster!

I think I was doing around 120-125mph and my car was at 6000rpm. There power curve increases up to 6500rpm so i reckon I could have got 130ish.

You have to remember that there is a tolerence of power output of something like 8% so you could only have 115bhp. Check your engine is running fine, replace the leads and plugs. Make sure the brakes don't bind etc.

Going that speed on the motorway is dodgy though, anything over 100 and you are looking at a ban.

Personaly I think its ridiculous how police officers get away with 159mph scott-free when everyone else gets shat on for doing 35 in a 30, there should be dynamic speed limits (i.e empty motoway @ 3am = 100mph+)

p.s I was on an autobahn

I've bareley been over 90mph, no need to go any faster, i never asked for a gti, my dad bought me it  it is nice having the power there though, just before christmas my car went in for a few repairs and they gave me a crappy lupo! it was completeley gutless and felt like it was going to topple over round corners so apreciate mine a bit more now but still not going to go raging the t**s off it at 150mph down the motorway, its just stupid no matter how early it is it dosent prepare you for a puddle, bit of ice or pot hole in the road which at those sorts of speed could send you flying into the crash barrier

dont think mine could do 150mph, its not modified and has 16 inch alloys and is lowerd about 35 mil I think but thats it. I know you can get 115 out of a 1.4 8v corsa, the stupid idiot decided he'd take a photo whilst doing it!

So for those who have reached 135mph+ have you made any alterations to your engine etc?

just picked up a parkers guide
vw polo GTI Max Speed - 125mph (obviously you have to allow an extra few mph from the engine bedding in slightly)
but surely these 135mph+ figures have something to do with lowered suspension, bigger wheels and fudged speedos!
