Power steering
Power steering
hi i have a 1.4 S polo and on the way home there thesteering got heavy as f**k and couldnt really steer much, so i was looking for the fluid tank but i didn't know which one it was, any one help me please
In your engine bay there's a container with a green lid and a funny cap
Something like this on a mk5:

I think the lid is like that to stop people opening it and pouring the wrong liquid in?
I think there's a level marker, so check it on there. If it's low then personally I wouldn't use anything other than genuine VW power steering fluid.
Btw thanks to Neilw for the engine pic

just had a machanic look at my car their to see what was up and he said the pipe coming from the power steering fluid tank thingy bobber is corroded and has been for some time, so its gonnae cost me 200-400 to get it fixed, and the thing is the car passed an MOT in December, how the feck did they no notice it
i think i've bough a bucket
now say i have to pay for this myself(if the warranty doesn't cover it)do you think i could get on to the garage that done the MOT and get the money off them as they shouldn't of passed the mot with that pipe like that as its dangerous(so say the mechanic
)
anyone help, thanks

what if i didn't get my car from VW dealership thoModifiedMadness wrote:The only thing is, it's your word against the mechanics that done the MOT as to whether it was faulty at the time.
I wouldn't have thought it would be wear and tear so it may be covered under warranty. Best bet is to phone VW and ask them
