Number plate recess in rear bumper

Post by Dub1 »

has anyone done this? im thinking of having mine done & i will possibly have the boot smoothed.

would i have to source a rear bumper already with a recess & cut that out & have it plastic welded OR fibreglassed to my rear bumper.

obviously i'd get a bodyshop to do it but just wondering how i could go about it before hand...

cheers :)

easyer not to do it looks to comon and always is a crap finish as you can see the filler in your tailgate. 1 out of 10 looks nice the rest should have been left.

Anyone know if a MK5 boot lid would fit a MK4, I am also after smoothing the rear end but looking for the easiest route possible.

A decent bodyshop shouldn't fill the recess, they should weld a metal plate over it and smooth it that way, then you get no sinkage.

See, I'm the opposite, I prefer it on the bumper, the boot has too much going on otherwise IMO.

I think smooth boots can look nice

Only problem is, you end up having the numberplate in some random place (like in the window or hanging from the bumper) and 99% it ruins the look.

Unless you just drive with no plates
