VW stealers

Post by andyg »

Just had 60k service done. Last service they did they had overfilled the oil, so when i got back home I checked the level. This time its over the max by about 2cm!! I'd guess they put in an extra litre or so.

Last time a different dealership made this error. I will take it down there asap and get them to drain the excess. But I thought I would let everyone know that just because VW dealers charge stupid money it doesn't mean they look after your car any better.

You guys reckon it will do any damage to the CAT?

Just out of interest. How much was the service mate, and what was done?

It's just that my next one will be the 60k, all be it 2k under 60.

The service was £200, they changed the Oil, air filters and oil filter, pollen filter and added screen wash (which I told them not to do cause I just bought a litre of the stuff). They also did some other work not related to the service.

I rang up 4 dealerships, highest was £260, others were £240, £220 and 200.

Thanks, I'm thinking of getting my cambelt etc done early, it's on just over 52000 at the minute.

Cambelt change alone at a VW dealer is about £280.

Check your oil if they do change it, I think cause the Gti only uses 3.2L of oil they must just shove 4L in. I know for sure they didn't check the level on the dipstick, they will just go off the meter.

i dont go near VW dealers after mine went for standard service not long after purchased the car, got a bill of £260 pound and found out the mechanic had been out racing about in my car, used over quarter tank of fuel and everything in car moved around, needless to say they refunded me over half the price of the service as the didnt have a leg to stand on and had replaced brake pads for no reason with plenty meat left on!!! Very lucky have local approved Volkswagen specialist nearby who is ace with VW/Audi

My car went in for a service and after picking it up it seem fine but later I noticed the car didn’t sound right and then the next day the engine warning light come on. So took it back to VW only to find out it was one of the spark plug leads which they didn’t have in stock! When I actually got it replaced they give me an expense bill too, managed to get 10 or 20% off because it just had the service and was probably broken by someone there who changed the spark plugs anyway. Next service I’m taking the car to the Volkswagen specialist where I got my cam belt done.

Talking about oil. Just checked mine recently and I’m never really sure if I get an accurate reading. Seems like it too full now.
