I have heard about this mysterious 99 RON Tesco petrol. The Tesco in town only has 97 RON. But my boss (who lives about 20 miles away), said that the Tesco near him does the 99 RON petrol. :?

Anyway i filled my GTi with Shell Optimax for the first time on friday, what a difference it make. Who cares if its a little more expensive, its worth every penny. :D

Asfore 99 RON Tesco petrol, perhaps its just a myth. :)

Tesco's new premium fuel is 99RON.

Shell Optimax is 98RON.

BP Ultimate is 97RON.

Finally as we all know regular unleaded pump fuel is 95RON.

My nearest Tesco doesn't do the premium stuff and there are no Shell garages around so I use the Ultimate, have been using it for over 12 months now apart from the odd occasion where the one pump in this town that has Ultimate runs out! The car runs smoother and fuel effiency is slightly up by a couple of extra mpg. If I had the choice though, I'd go for Optimax very time!

Cheers

I use Shell Optimax.

There was a feature on Fith Gear (chan 5) about Optimax and Bp ultimate. They were investigating to see if they did increase performance. The result was that they did in the cars with a turbo, but not the cars without a turbo.

However, optimax also claims to clean carbon deposits and give higher MPG. I can't tell if i get better performance, but I do know the higher octane petrol is better for my engine so thats why I use it.

p.s In the test Optimax beat Bp ultimate in the extra Bhp it gave.

Due to the relatively high compression ratio of the GTi engine it's better to run it on Super-Unleaded.

I've been stuck using BP Ultimate for a while now, never seem to go near a Shell garage to put some Optimax in.
