CD Player Installation with CD Changer

Post by Dan_Gti »

Hey guys, just bought a standard VW CD Player off eBay to install under the tape deck (i prefer having the ability to change cds without going in the boot!)
I've pulled out the spacer and looking at connecting the cd player but there doesn't seem to be a connection on the radio unit that is available?
The one that fits is being used by the cd changer (i think)
Anyone fitted one these successfully?

The single slot cd player plugs in using the cd changer input on the tapedeck, the cd changer should then plug in the single disc unit to allow it to still operate. To use the cd changer you need to select the changer option on the front of the single disc unit.

hmmm thats strange!!
maybe the cd changer in the boot is connected in the space that the single slot cd would use.
i had the cassette in my mk5 and when it came to fitting the single slot cd player, there was no trouble at all!!

Hey that sounds about right mate, only thing I can't work out is that the CD Player doesn't illuminate when the lights are switched on??

Yep wire as mentioned above - there is a plug space on the back of the single slot cd player to connect your cd changer to

Illumination is missing as your missing the illumination lead hehe, basically a lead that sits in line with the iso leads from car side, which go into back of radio and then a fly lead from this goes into that little two pin plug on the back of the single slot cd player - then it will light up when you put the car lights on

Does anyone know a part number so I can order from VW. I spoke to my local dealers yesterday and the bloke didn't really have a clue what I was talking about

Sorry I don't think you can buy the illumination lead on its own, forgot to say in my post above. It was part of the vw boxed kit if you bought the dash cd player brand new or would have been in the car if the dash cd player was factory fit...

Your going to have to try find one on ebay or as its only two wires [ground and illunination sense from car ISO plug], consider DIY'ing the lead, as you can buy the connectors I think - I was going to do this at one stage, but then found a lead on ebay.
