Faulty Central Locking

Post by Goodfella »

Hi

I have a 1998 1.4CL. The central locking has been playing up. I cannot open any of the doors from the drivers side anymore. The key moves but it feels like it is making no connection. So at the moment I am going round the passengers side to open the car!

Is this a common fault and is it easily fixed?

Cheers Ross

i gaver your lock dont work at all off the drivers? if so its a common problem as the shaft for the lock mech is only thin bit of alloy and uslly snaps you can get yourself a lock repair kit from your dealer normaly on the self dont know on price?? but this is a common problem on all volkswagens with the same lock.
hope this helps

when you open your drivers door there is a trox screw near the handle remove this and the handle will be lose move the handle from side to side and at one point the handle will come out and will leave the alloy shaft behind (usally) the handle is pritty simple its just removing the spring etc then fit the repair kit and jobs a gooden you can lock your doors again.
