MkIV Electrical Issues

Post by Redline »

Ok guys, I need your help here. My Gran drives an S-Reg 1.4CL (sadly unmodified) that she is looking to sell. However it has been suffering from a few "issues" lately that have not been easy to solve.

This includes:

- Random discharging of the battery, and failing to start, even immediately after long journeys.

- Constant buzzing noise from behind the dash,

- Dashboard lights flickering from bright to dim,

Any ideas guys would be great, thanks :)

I have the same issues, mine however is the switch for the lights, the buzzer is integral. Just get a new one, should sort the probs.

best thing to do about the battery problem is just buy a brand new battery for it to be honest. Go down to a garage and get them to check the starter motor and the alternator and make sure they are fine. If they come out ok then buy a new battery and it should sort out the light problem and the battery problem in one go. As far as the buzzing from the dash is concerned unscrew the glovebox out and just make sure there is nothing that could be rattling in there but make sure you disconnect the battery before you touch any wires!

- Random discharging of the battery, and failing to start, even immediately after long journeys.

A: MY MATE HAD THIS PROB WITH HIS CAR. THE BATTERY WIRES WEREN'T CONNECTED PROPERLY. (SO THAT MAY BE A POSSIBILITY)

- Constant buzzing noise from behind the dash,

A: FOR THIS ID SAY STEREO WIRES? MAYBE TAKE IT OUT JUST TO DOUBLE CHECK

- Dashboard lights flickering from bright to dim,

A: FUSE POSSIBLY?

THOSE WOULD BE MY GUESSES.

Good luck in sorting it out!
