Hi New MK4 Polo owner wanting to fit 17's advice wanted????

Post by SAM_MK4_19D »

Hi All,

I have had my MK4 polo 1.9DL for about 6 months now and it's about time I treated her to a set of alloys and a drop. I really want a set of 17 inch Audi RS4 replica rims but have been advised they will fit but I will have major problems when I come to lower her. What would you guys recommend? I have been told i'd be ok if it were not for the fact the RS4 rims are a 7.5J. Apparently 7 inch wide fits fine. Have any of you got 17's with a drop? What have you managed to get away with without arch mods? Any ideas on maximum drop with 17x7's or 17x7.5j and your arch rubbing probs if any would be much appreciated. I've got debadged grille black rear lights, clear indicators and side repeaters in the boot ready to be fitted all I need is the rims and a drop and she'll be looking dappa!!

Cheers

Sam.

I'm pretty sure people have fitted 17in RS4 replicas, but in my opinion the wheels look too big for the car.

Get some 13 or 14 inch wheels. Deep dish. Then much lowerage. :D Thank you please.

Cheers for your quick response fella but I want 15's minimum but really want 17's as I mainly do motorway mileage so speedhumps etc are no probs. Want to go low with 17's if poss. Could I manage 60mm on 17x7.5J's?

15"s look the best on the 6n with a healthy 60mm drop, meaning no scrubbing. Although I have broken my exhaust 4 times now, has to be repaired again tommorow! That's just on 60...

Your joking right? 60mm on 17's will destroy your arches.

Not speaking from experience so just based on what I've read about people with 17s go only -40mm.

Some experience problems while other dont.

Just didn't know mate. Sure 60mm was a bit adventurous but am new the the dub scene. Have an Mondeo ST200 aswell you see. The polo's just for cheap mile munching on my way to work. What I've been looking at is a 30-35mm suspension kit & 17's but I don't know whether 30mm is even going to be noticed. Also don't know which will be best out of a 7 or 7.5 wide rim. Any experience would be appreciated. Cheers for your help so far fellas.

From my experience of having 17's on a polo. I would suggest going for some smaller rims, without even lowering the polo it will run on 17s. 17 inch wheels on a polo will also make the speedo completely wrong and will make the breaking distance much longer!

I think you should seriously rethink 17s, they ruined my last car.

my boyf had a polo a few year ago, had 17" wheels and dropped about 70mm, looked totally mint. for the wheels to fit he rolled the back arches and modified the rear suspension cups. he used wheels from a fiat as they have a skinnier offset, and he never had any probelms with those wheels. hope that helps

to be honest theres a high chance of the rims not just scrubbin the outter arch but also the inner gaurd wen u put on full lock, i wud suggest 15, 16'' and drop it 40mm if ur on 16'' sits perfect.

To be honest, nobody beleives there horror tales about 17s until they have had them, so if you choose to ignore us and get them. You soon will.

As for this comment, either he had extensive arch work, or you aint got a f*****g clue.

i was gonna say cos i have 15's and lowered 60 all around, and they site perfect, but sometimes you just need to watch the awful potholes :(

same as all the guys said, wouldn't put 17's on my polo again but if you get the chance try getting some coilovers and adjust it to the ride height your comfortable with :D
