I hate you people!!!!

Post by Mk2Adam »

i always said my car is only a 1 litre and the most i'll do is alloys...but now seeing everyones cars i'm starting to be tempted by lowering kits, strut braces, rolling arches and god knows what else  maybe some of this is the fact that i have a job now, money and imagination can be dangerous sometimes.

i'll wait till summer before i do anything major but i'm very tempted, because i'm planning on turning my squareback into an off the road project after around september time.

i'm beginning to think about doing some major bits as it'll all contribute when it becomes my project.

any ideas, maybe someone telling me i'm an idiot would be useful now lol

Nah, don't keep it completely original, but don't go mad - subtle mods are where it's at ;) What are you thinking of doing to it?

funny enough adam i just got a job and i've been brain stormin too lol.

i agree with hypojam keep it original.

i go to sparesworld by me a lot and the boy who works there had a square back aswell so i said i wouldnt mind doing rs2 bumper front and big bumper back and he walked away from me.

he said that'll spoil your car cause it stands out now for its condition. you'll be crossing the line and you will regret it later and you wont be able to go back.

so i took the advice and im not doing anything to her not even alloys

yesturday i clocked 100k miles n i want to slap another 100k on it but whether i will just have to see.

The way I see it, the best way to approach modding is to bring the car up to the standard that it should have come out of the factory in an ideal world. Fit all the options it didn't come with, make it look and drive as well as possible without ruining the standard form. For example, I decided to half colour code my bumpers, add the red trim found on higher spec models and restore the black plastic rather than go for RS2 bumpers or similar. That way I've stuck to the original styling and kept it looking as VW intended, but just taken it that extra step to neaten it up a bit. I'm sure not everyone will agree that's the best way to go about things, but I'm pretty happy with how it all turned out, and that's certainly the way I'll be taking the scirocco if I decide to mod it at all.

i was thinking maybe some bucket seats, lexus lights, modifying a body kit from a nova and maybe some 18" chrome rimz and a phat sound system.

Ha Ha only joking!

i'd never EVER mutilate a polo, i was thinking 14" alloys, 45mm drop and possibly rolling the arches if the wheels won't fit under there.

all ive done to my polo is clear indicators front and sides and new plates with welsh flag and a silver surrround.

kris your polo looks clean

it goes down to the owners personal taste.

Alloys will set the car off but im thinking more forward because i will keep the car till she cant move and i would like to take some of the stuff i bought off and use again.

newer cars have more choice of alloys and can fit bigger ones on.

norn what do u mean by

well said GC! keep it clean and tidy, put the vw extras on, and i have to admit, a nice set of wheels with a slight lowerage goes along way! clear indicators give it that clean look as well!

That's kinda why, as far as i got with mine, you probably couldn't have told anything had been done to it if you didn't know your stuff.... doing the engine out was just a sideline.... the door handle trims, nicer seats inside, gearstick gaiter, rev clocks, front fogs, nice factory option wheels (for a while), eco 5-speed box, retuned chip etc. ;)

It all made it nicer to own (rather than a pain such as i expect lambo doors would be, or changing a bulb on lexus lights) and felt a little bit "smarter", even if I never had chance to do any major work like dropping the suspension (don't think I would have either - practicality and giggles were always the watchwords rather than track-like performance).

One thing I would say... if you're wanting to keep it some time and carry on modding, but also have some speed from it... for the love of pete swap the engine for at least a 1272 CL, pref. an NZ or GT when you get the opportunity, cash and time. The more oomph it has there, the less taxed and less hard-worn it will get from someone who wants to go fast, as the balance will come down on the side of part throttle with lower revs more often than full throttle near the redline... so long as they can reign themselves in from automatically lead-footing it everywhere in any car!

i'd love to do that mate but i think i'll have to settle for a GT engine instead

...unless someone out there wants to donate a G40 engine to me just to see a mk2 hatch with G power

and i think i'll keep with my original plan of 14" scalas....no rolling of arches and possibly a small amount of lowerage but nothing crazy....and of course the GT conversion but that won't be till september time. the alloys should be done shortly.
