Firsy, I've just ordered a stereo for my mk4 1.4cl and wondered how easy it is to install. I had a quick search for a guide but can't seem to find one. If anyone can offer some help I'd appreciate it.
Secondly I'd like to get some alloys, probably some 15" gti alloys, bbs or possibly hockenheims (if they do 195/45/15, not sure yet) or something that is that style anyway. Wheres a good place to look for these as I was thinking maybe breakers websites, ebay or the back of autotrader...? Again any help would be great.
Ah I also have the dragon green polo, have to say it looks SOOOOO much nicer with a set of alloys on!
With the stereo, does it involve taking any of the dash out or is it just a couple of lugs that pop out? I've never touched stereos in cars so am completely clueless... Its the standard sony cassette it came with.
i never actually fitted my stereo but i'd imagine its straight forward - haynes manual??
as for alloys i found www.rochfordtyres.co.uk is good, complete tyre wheel packages for a huge range of alloys at a really good price. plus theres sum mock-up pics of polos with certain alloys on them...

Stereos are usually easy to fit nowadays and are often a straight swap. You should find that behind your old stereo when you remove it is a wiring block. That should fit into your stereo without any probs to provide power, sound to speakers etc. You may find that you need an adaptor but these can be brought from any car audio place (eg Al-Frauds!). On my 1.4cl the aerial would not fit so i needed an adaptor for it. You may also need to get hold of the metal 'lugs' to remove the original stereo from the dash. hope everything goes Ok.
you will need a set of VW flat removal keys. that go in the flat slots each side of the radio. if you have them push them in till they click pull out slowley at same time and radio slides out.
or my way. take the QR facia off undo the 6 philips screws and bend the retaining tabs down. and pull out by tape hole.
disconnect the wireing.
remove metal cage by bending out of the hole.
refite new cage that come with radio.
buty wireing adapter from halfrauds or if your handy with a soldering iorn then go for it ( make sure you have a multi meter to test wires) as this is all off the top of my head so some may be wrong.
you now have 2 wireing plugs black one is the speakers has 4 or 6 wires depending on if you have rears or not
then theres the brown one that has 4 or 5 wires on it arranged in a irregular pattern.
probe all the wires its kinda obvios what goes where from the looks of the wires and by probing them besure to put the ground probe on bare metal of the car (IE in the passengers footwell theres a nut that has wires going to it thats a ground point put the -probe on my multi meter there.)
once you have all wireing sorted connect sterio turn on and play turn lights on watch it dim turn off radio turn on and check settings if you loose them you have the red and yellow wires wrong way round.
push sterio into hole clip on facia and jobs a goodun.
new radio wireing
red = permanent live
yellow = switched live
black = ground
orange = illumination
pink = phone mute
blue = power antena
blue with white stripe = remote power for amp.
all speaker wires the one with the stripe is the -ive
purple
purple white stripe
green
green white stripe
white
white black stripe
read teh instalation instructions first. anything you dont understand ask. if a fuse blows you have wired it up wrong disconnect and check wireing.
before starting work either disconnect the -ive battery or take out the radio fuse in the glove box.
check and double check your work before making it live.
cover all exposed conections from the chassis and other wires.
just be carfull when your taking the front off the radio not to loose any screws.
you can also pop it out from the back access is from the drivers glovebox get in there and reach up till you find the radio and give it a good hard push. or from teh passengers footwell.
