Engine problem, MK IV Polo (1996) assistance.....

Post by weefatbob »

Hi
I have a 1996 (P) Polo, which has had an engine problem since I got it. For no apparent reason the revs keep firing up and going to between 2-3000. They also dip now and again as if the car is going to stall.

I have had all electrodes tested and changed and I have also changed the petrol inlet valve. All have been re-calculated by computer. It still happens.

Anyone else had this problem, and can advise me as how to correct it, am at my wits end!!!!

Cheers.

Disconnect the battery for a while to reset the ECU.

No hope? ....

....Replace temperature sensor

Still no?...

....the VERY last option is the throttle body.

I think that's the usual route by the looks of things on MK4s. Somewhere in between is the carb cleaner, and a Vag Com reprogram or something....Im not too sure with that one. Depends on how dirty your throttle body is, have a gander to see if its completely black or not.

I'm no expert though mate, I'm just going by what I read on these boards. Do a search for "idle problem" or something, its a common fault.

the revs on my car dips when i put high electrical strain on it. i have a hotshot washer fluid heating system when i turn that on the revs drop then the engine management increases them to normal.

your prob could be a dirty throtle body. goto halfords and buy yourself some carb cleaner. take your airbox off start the engine and spray carb cleaner directly onto the throtle butterfly while reving the engine.

there was a guide around here somewhere.

might be in the common problems thread.
