Your impressions of the Polo Sport 1.4 (100PS)?

Post by Fast Ethernet »

Hi there!

I'm going to be buying my first car (the first one I've bought myself) and I'm looking pretty hard at the VW Polo.

My wants/needs are: something small, reliable, and nice to drive (smooth). The Polo covers has the small part covered, but what about the rest?

I'm driving a Mitsubishi Verada at the moment and I find it much too large, and petrol hungry. Other than that's it's wonderfully smooth and a pleasure to drive (if a pain to park because of the size).

I was originally looking at the Polo GTI, but I'll have repayments to consider and so cast my gaze toward a cheaper model.

So, anyway, Polo Sport owners, what do you think?

Can't advise you on that particular model, but I think you would be pleased with a Polo. I had the 100TDI sport, which might be worth considering, as you have the advantage of high MPG and the extra torque!!

Best advice would be to have a test drive in a few models, see what suits you.

Good luck, and keep us posted!

I agree..... I have driven most models. Sport version is better for the extra equipment plus the suspension set up is so much better than standard. I also had the 100bhp TDI which strikes a good compromise between performance and mpg. It certainly has more grunt than any of the petrol engines. I now have the 130bhp TDI which is nice but I wouldn't recommend it over the 100bhp TDI simply because of the high price difference - having had the new car for a while now I would say that it is not worth the extra money.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Yeah, I'll probably head out to the dealers this weekend and take one for a drive.

What do you guys think os used vs. new? There's a nice little 2002 Polo listed online for $14K that looks to be in incredible condition. It's got 39000km on it and it's maybe two hours drive from me. The only downside to this is that it's three door, not five.

How do I find out what parts are available (for the MkVII Polo) and what their part numbers are?

Just my two pence worth, but I have never seen the need to buy a new car, and always try and get as close to new as possible with low miles.

You lose so much money buying new.

Where you from anyway?, as you've put $ and km.

To be honest, it's cost that's making me consider used. But then, with new, I can get a full warrenty. Also, I'd really prefer a 5-door Polo, but all the decent ones are 3-door around my area (within a few hours drive).

I'm in Australia :)

*I* think it's a negative, but if it gets me a cheaper car I'm all for it.

With the parts, was wondering if there were, preferably, non-GTI door sills that would fit a MkVII Polo. I was also wondering if the centre console insert/surround from the Polo GTI would fit in a standard Polo?

Yep, most of the add-on bits from the Polo GTI will fit the other models. The bits which won't fit would be the bits which are specific to the 3dr models.

Excellent, because I am now lusting after this little beastie.

Who would have thought buying a car would be such a difficult decision :?
