9n Engine cutting out.

Post by alanred »

Hiya,
I got this car last year (August). Since day 1 it has had a problem where as it cuts out when coming to a stop.
It's been back into Gilbert Lawton Manchester on 5 different occasions. Each time they told me they had cured it. In November the coil packs failed so i had them replaced. The VW Assistance man said that would be why it was cutting out. Since November it has cut out a further 7 times.
My problem is this, if i take it back again they will just say the same thing about it being fixed.
The warranty runs out in August 06, i think they are just hoping they can get away with it until then.
The last time i took it in i told them i dont want it back until it's done so they kept it for a weekend so they could run "Some extensive tests" on it. For all know it could have been untouched all weekend.
It obviously didn't cure it.
Has anyone had a similar problem ? I need to know how to get their attention (legally) so i can finally get this sorted, otherwise it will be the last VW i will ever buy again.

I'd appreciate any help at all.
Thanks.

There must be something i can do to sort this out, getting beyond a joke to be honest.
Also, when i bought it they had a £50 cashback offer if you recommend a friend and they buy a vehicle off them, i did this, a friend bought a 04 plate Golf off them, after loads of e-mails and phone calls they still take the p*** by telling me the offer has expired
Would anyone agree that a letter to VW uk might help or would that be a waste of time aswell ?

Thanks.

Sorry to hear about the problems your having,

I think a letter to vw customer service is a good start, outline exactly the problem, whats been replaced and how many times the dealer has had a chance to fix it and that it's still doing it. Send a copy to the dealer as well. It sounds like an intermittent fault which are obviously very difficult to diagnose.

Also try taking it into a different dealer and see if they come up with a different solution.

Hope you get the problem sorted!

Sorry to hear about your problems.

Best person to contact is Paul Willis - MD of VW UK
Yeomans Drive, Blakelands, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire MK14 5AN 01908 679121. Normally gets things moving - got them to contribute and sort out allsort on my Polo GTI. Document your problems - send a copy to the dealer and VW UK and see what happens. Failing that legal action - Sale of Goods Act etc.

Cutting out

Post by V800DUB »

Just been reading some threads from past days and found this one!! I have exactly the same problem and have for a bout 2 years now. Its never come to anything but can be quite unnerving! I haven't a clue what it is either, nor have i been to anyone to see what the problem is! The best advice i have seen on other models that do the same kind of thing is to thoroughly clean the throttle body? Its usually when going from 3rd to 2nd right when coming to a stop when the clutch is dipped? Other then that if anyone else knows what the problem might be it'd be excellent to have some more advice!!
