2.0litre Polo - Cant it be done?

Post by Polo Paul »

Hi guys,

A month ago my seat ibiza 2.0litre GTi got rear ended, i can find the car and get various parts from it through my insurers no problem. What i want to know is...........................has anyone done/seen/heard of a 2.0litre 8v mk4 Polo??

Being similar cars i imagine swapping dials, ECU's, interiors, locks, looms, and brakes shouldnt be too much of an issue, however what i am not sure on is that i will be able to shoehorn that engine under the bonnet without some serious rebulding of the front end, and will the smaller Polo be able to take the power and weight?

I have seen 1.8 20vt mk4 Polos, but i know the amount of work that has gone into these and the fabrication involved. This would be me and my mate (who is a classic car restorer) carrying out the conversion over a few weekends.

Just an idea at this point, would have to figure out the cost of the project etc and see if its worth it, any ideas views welcomed.

:D

Swapping looms and stuff will still be as hard as any other conversion... they arent the same car after all

As for possibility, anything is possible with enough cash. You will be able to get it in as there are mk4 polos with 2.9 VR6 lumps in them

I realise that the wiring will be a swine and unfortunately also our weakest point of knowledge. But surely things like locks, ignition barrels, ECU, interior, should just swap places from car to car as they are both based on the same chassis & interior styling? Getting the donor car wont be a massive expense, and as i said its a project and something for my friend to modernise his portfolio with so labour will be cheap.

Main concern is things such as engine/gearbox mounts, wheel hubs and driveshafts as the ibiza is much bigger dashboard forwards, a custom exhaust can be got to suit the manifold. (views and problems please)

Anything else i have missed?
