De-bumped

Finally got round to removing the bump strips, this is something you just have to do, it has such a drastic and visual effect on the car. Took a couple of hours to do properly, no missing paint and all traces of old glue removed. I used umpteen kettles of boiling water to gently remove the strips, then used a hot air gun (the kind you use to strip paint) on it's lowest setting to remove the crap left over, which came off surprisinglt easy. Then used petrol to remove the last of the sticky stuff. Then washed the whole car and decided to wax her aswell. Going to breakers 2morrow to see a man about a set of rear door handles off of a 5 door polo, thus de-locking my oloP. Sorry about the sh_it quality but I couldn't find my digi cam, so used my phone. Oh, sorry about the finger.

i had 2use petrol on mine aswell while wearing bright yellow rubber gloves(i felt like a right prick), so i cud rub the glue off aswell, friction did the trick,

i have 2 still get pics of my dub on here as i got that cherrybomb fitted a couple of weeks ago an looks well, remember that topic

it sounds well tho an looks the piece. and im gettin my front 2 side windows tinted this week as i already have the back 3 and the sunstrip, so pic's in progress

ive always wanted to de-badge mine, but too scared really, heard stories. and with the car bein 10years old surely the paint under the strip will be a different shade, due to weathring and such like??

mine was fine an mine is the red polo, an wen they were produced the paint had a fault through it in production by the time they had relized(VW) it was too late, the paint fades badly afta a few years an turns pink, since ive had it, ive had 2 T-cut it several times an polish it regulary 2 keep the good redness, its due again 2 b done, coz its fadin.

My mk4 was coming on 10 years old when i de-bumper stripped mine and there was no fade at all. In my opinion it looks really good when done with all the glue removed (thats the w**k part)

nope your being a pussy.

arm yourself with some fine swirl polish "megires profesinal range #80 anti swirl machine polish"
some dental floss
mums hairdrier or dads paint stripping gun

warm up strips SLOWLEY with hairdrier or paint stripper and slide floss between the car and the bump strip and slowley use a sawing action to go along the leanght of the strip keeping it warm on the part your working on if its to cold you will pull off paint. when it comes off wipe it down with some petrol to remove the sticky. if theres a fade line polish up with megs#80 push hard and give it some welly unless you have a DA polisher than use it on speed 4-5 then swap pads and polish off with speed 5.
protect with a good car wax NXT tech was SP21 or autoglym paint sealant.

megs#80 is bodyshop safe so is good for new paint just dont use a sealer on it.

the paintn is surprisnly tough as i was usin a plastic ruler 2scrap the black sticky off an i was leanin hard on the paint work, so hard the ruler broke in2 3bits, an my paint didnt score once, so i was happy, oh but that was wit soapy water, NOT DRY! lets not go there, lol

my jaw hit the floor then. dude you will have micromarred the paintowork the kind of think i spend 5+ plus every 6 months removing and proventing

i know, lol, but the paint needs a bloody good re-spray/t-cut/polished and buffed, the whole works again, there them swirls everywhere on it, im gonna do it soon wen the weather picks up a bit.
