Performance
Performance
Hey everyone i'm new to the forum. I have just bought a silver polo gti to replace my mk2 golf gti 8v. I thought as the polo has more power it should be quicker than the golf but it seems i was wrong. Any advice on a performance exhaust system which is not stupidly loud? Cheers!

Your gunna struggle to get a good exhaust for the polo! only two i no of are the Remus and jetex/laser
NO ONE does an exhaust anymore for it, took my bro (local ripspeed boss) over 10 phone calls to source one i ended up with a jetex one but i've had to have it chopped and changed to fit so my suggestion is a powerflow!!
They done me a de-cat pipe and its spot on IMO

Alright!
Yes, I've got a Powerflow, and IMHO (everyone's tastes are different) once you have reached motorway speeds (I cruise at 80-85 generally) it is much quieter, but under acceleration makes more noise than standard. It also has a fair rumble at idle once the car is warmed through
I can provide the details of the system if you are interested in having a similar system made up by a local Powerflow specialist - the tailpipe makes a lot of difference though! I had my tailpipe changed from this:

To this:

Note the change in the tailpipe behind the bumper. The original short-ass pipe droned at a certain point in the rev range, equal to 70-80mph which as you can imagine played havoc with my eardrums on the M6 on the way home, and every day for two weeks until I got it changed!

The Polo feels slower to drive than a MK2 1.8 8v Golf but it will comfortably overtake the Golf after 80mph and keep on its bumper to 80 My friends Golf felt a lot quicker to drive but I could always cruise past him in my Polo pretty easily, he also thought the Polo felt slow to drive as already said its just due to the revy nature of the Polos engine compared to the low down torque of the 8v
