Warm start problems on 16v

I am starting to notice that my 16v is having problems
when starting from warm. It starts first time when cold,
but when it is warm it occasionally doesn't start first time.
When it does start it is really erratic until you rev it.
I also sometimes have the problem of cutting out
when the clutch is dipped.

Has anyone successfully solved these problems?

the engine probably needs de-cokeing.

to do this grab some 10K Boost from Halfords, remove your air filter and spray it in.

Thanks for the replies,

The polo has 67k on it and has had a recent Oil change service.
I have a feeling that it hasn't had the oil filter or spark plugs
changed for 30k so I think I might change those.

I took the air filter housing apart last night and it was looking
very dirty and the filter was shot. What's the best Air filter
to get K&N or OEM?

My next door neighbour who is a fitter recommended Forte
petrol additive.

Just installed the K&N filter drop in on my AEE engine, but it's not as snug as I'd like it to be. You engine has a different shape filter though, so that should be better. Mine is round, and it's not as tight around the edges sadly. Performance wise, it's fine (don't expect any gains, but it will feel better after chucking that dirty OE filter) and now it does have a bit of a gurgle when floored...

Should my engine code be AFH (16v)?

Also I know that a dirty MAF causes problems on other cars,
is the Polo one known to get gunked up?

Don't know about the MAF getting gunked up, but the TB does have a tendency to do so. At least, they do on the 8v engines, so it may well be the same for the 16v.
