Quote For Respray & Body Work..

This morning i telephoned a long standing body shop where i live for a rough quote on a full respray for the car..

I was told that they only base it on the size & time of the job, they asked to see it, i drove it down, very pleased, have been quoted Â£200 for a rub down, rust treatment and respray of the areas at the bottoms of the doors and a few other small bits on the paint work that are starting to show..

or i can have the whole car resprayed for around Â£800 - full rub down

I'm unsure as to what i will do, even if i do have it resprayed it won't be for another 2 months.. (atleast i'd have the money by then)

I'm unsure on the colour though, should i stay with Yellow or go for something else? A few people have suggested Metallic Blue although i'm not at all sure of that either! i think a metallic brown would look awesome like that oldskooldubs picture i posted..

What you reckon?

OOoOooOO also!!! also! also!.... hehe my girlfriend asked me if i would like to go to france for a weekend over my birthday, but i've already booked something.. She said she wanted to get me something that i would use alot, and admire! .. so i ran off a quote for a full set of ATS Classics (13x8) With New 175/50s..

oh.. and this afternoon i'm going to rub down my rear bumper and repaint it so it's smooth.. and polish all the chrome..

Not a bad price provided they do a good job, i got quoted a nice round Â£1,000 for a part-respray on my mk2, needless to say i havent gone ahead with it yet, lol.

I found another place, called "P R Resprays" and they quoted me Â£400 for a complete rub down and repaint internal and external..

But i was told that, "we'll do a professional job and remove all signs of rust, but we you won't get a "show room finish" "

also a long standing company.. who do alot of new and old cars..

It concerns me really as to what "show room finish" means, they get alot of business so they must do a reasonable job, and they've been established for 17 years now, my point is what does he mean, will it be a s**t job? or does he just mean it wont be a completely perfectly new car..

You really do get what you pay for with paint. I'd definately question the guy who told you it wont be 'show room' - because its not a metallic colour and wont be hard to match to a good standard.

Try and get a 2nd opinion on whatever place you're planning to use.

i would of thought "not showroom finnish" would mean a dimpled finnish like an orange peel

I popped by a few days later to have alook at some cars they were doing, one of which was a 1.1 fiesta, Originally Red, now Black, had the 400 quid jobby they quoted me for, it wasnt show room, if you looked closely you could see it didnt look like a new VW would in the showroom, but it looked good, the guy said that they are low on work at the moment so are doing cheaper prices, also they said due to the car being old, if there are dents or heavy scratching you may still be able to see where they originally were on the car.. (not as bad as it sounds)...

The fiesta had a large dent in the rear wing and they had moulded it to the 400 quid standard, and u could bearly see it at all unless you looked closely..

Tbh, the quality is a good finish, but its not going to make the body work & car look like its brand new, ie with no markings findable at all..

Ive got another month of my course, then ive got a v long summer and am working full time for the first 3 months of it so ill get it sprayed..

The extra Blue tint would cost extra..

For a standard rub down and respray itÂ´ll be 400, for metallic black it will cost me 500 quid, think its worth it though..

Also will be buying some ATS Classics with 175/50s and have just brought a new Pioneer MP5700 Headunit 50W RMS PC - sounds great..

either do it properly or not at all mate. A dent once repaired should not be seen wether its a Â£400 job or a Â£1000 job. I would rather see a dent than doggy filler work!! Have a go your self at doing the prep- it just takes patients

I'd be really interested to see the quality of their work.. don't suppose you happened to take any photos did you?
By not showroom finish, do you mean in terms of dent repair or in terms of paint quality? Just thinking of getting the rocco done at some point.. either just a blowover in white or a full paint job something like this:

I'll steer well clear if the paint quality's not up to scratch, but if it's just the body repair that'd not great then I'll get that done down the road and then take it elsewhere for spraying..

so your going to my seggestion black (cant spell suggestion), thats great, but pay the extra to get the blue tint trust me!!!! you wont regret it later on when you think what if i just payed the extra money, you car will look super cool dude trust me, go for it
