Neighbours

Post by WildChild »

right.. i can't find a suitable forum and it's to do with my car which is an MK1.. so it's going in here..

I am in between two houses, one to my left is the neighbour who i am highly fond of who gave me my car for free.. a lovely bunch of folks - neighbours you really want..

Then to my right i have a family from germany who moved in 3 years ago.. *expletive*

At 9am this morning i drove the car out of the garage and onto my drive to do some work on the bumpers.. (just released hand break and pushed it out)

It's 20:30 and i've just put the car back in the garage, started the engine, first time and drove it in, turned ignition off, locked doors and locked garage..

The family head comes storming out waving a "thumbs down" frantically at me, puts the phone down and starts ranting at me about fumes, noise polution and polution, saying that it's filling his kitchen and poisoning his family with carbon monoxide..

He carries on saying that my car should start first time with no problems and clearly needs skipping or an urgent MOT or service..

*expletive* WTF? it did start first time, it does every time..?!?!?!?!?!??!?!

He carries on and on and on about how crap my car is and how "POLUTING" it is for the atmosphere..

He owned two top of the range 3 litre Jaguar S types, one of which he swapped for a Vauxhall Vectra V reg.. :O with no cash..

and he's the one accusing me of poluting the atmosphere..

I did pleasently remind him that he runs a Jaguar S type, and really shouldnt leave his Kitchen door open all day when he insisted on replacing the fences between our properties with half sized 3 foot height instead of the 6 foot fences.. (also it's bad for security leaving doors open 24/7)..

By the end of the conversation i have also suggested that if he doesnt want my car in the garage, that he provides me the extra money to cover the increased cost of my insurance to keep my car on the road.. or to buy me a new car or pay for this service which i believe to be uneccersary..

I realise my car since it's old isn't the most efficient at cutting it's carbon monoxide fumes as most modern cars do, is there anything i can do about it? As he's offered to pay for the cost of it.. so i figure i mght as well that way he cant complain.. and i get new stuff :D

++ Think we should have a rant forum

i'm pretty sure the only way to stop the fumes will be if he pays for a G40 conversion

Dude theres nothing you can really do to that motor to make her any cleaner to the evironment.

It passed its MOT right? So theres nothing wrong with the engine emissions otherwise it would have failed, explain that to him. If he wants to pay for it to be thouroughly serviced let him and makesure its a VW main agent

Whatever you do though dont skip or swap engines around in a soon to be classic like that!

Soon to be classic? Mk1's ARE classic

Besides, I second your point...don't do a transplant to such an original car!

can't you just tell him he's a c**t and needs to stop over reacting at someone running their engine for thirty seconds? what's he do when a rubbish truck comes down the road, picket them?

if my neighbours were like that i wouldn't even have got as far as getting my car up on axle stands before they called the police (a lot of test-idling etc went on)

maybe he's just jealous that you've got a nice old example of german engineering and he's having to put up with the anglicised Opel dregs :D

edit: besides, leaving his kitchen door open all day? In april, in britain, even WITHOUT the crappy, freezing, wet & windy weather we've had of late? Madness. His heating bill must be immense just so they can wear two layers instead of three, and the amount of extra carbon leaving the local power station (or his gas boiler flue) because of it easily offseting your brief turn-over of a well tuned classic engine.
What a dipstick.

Ack, I've run across a similar twunt today in a random side-road car park in the middle of manchester

some nobs just can't resist sticking their oar in even when it's clear it wouldn't be appreciated

e.g. guy who's been suddenly faced with an unexpected oil change whilst wearing good gear stripping off to just jeans & skin.... to lie down and sort all the stuff out.... when the ground's already sodden.... and it's starting to snow.... having to tip out his bottle of drink on the ground and tub of biscuits on the back seat so he's got something to catch the gunk in rather than letting it spill everywhere.... OF COURSE he needs to hear about how he should take the car elsewhere to do it and not get oil all over the place because you have to park there for your work! SOD OFF ALREADY! :D

Well, Germany is a land with lots of regulations.

In most parts of the country, you can't wash your car on a street, not even on your own driveway.

You're not allowed to make any fire in your garden.

And people complain easily and call the police. It's quite normal, that a woman who has to cross the street with a pushcar because a parking car is blocking the sidewalk, is calling the police. Those guys actually come then along and fine the car owner.
Doing this here in Yorkshire, would be absolutely impossible. I reckon, the police would be rather confused and they wouldn't come in any way.

I don't know if it is possible to talk to those neighbours, but politicians in Germany are always eager to teach foreigners to adapt to the native culture. They should recognise that the UK is very different to Germany just in the matter of environmental and neighbouring law.
