'Service Oil'
I got in the car earlier on to come home and had 'Service Oil' where the tripometer mileage usually reads.
I did check the oil and it was at the minimum mark, I'm guessing that is why it's on there as my service isn't due until 58000 or August (it's on just over 53000)
I'm still waiting for the bloody thing to cool down because the oil is reading half way but it's still displaying 'Service Oil'

The service oil comes up due to the milage since it was last reset rather than it checking the oil, it will not have been reset the last time the car was serviced. I've seen intructions on how to reset it yourself involves holding down the trip reset button when turning the ignition on but I can't remember the exact process.

Just found the post in with how to reset it yourself. (thanks to Polo2k for the instructions)
1. with the key out of the ign find and press the reset button (hold down)
2. turn the ign on (warning lights come on) wait about 10-15 sec till most or the lights are off ( still pushing button)
3. turn ign off (button still pressed) and remove the key
4. release button
5. see if interval has stopped, if not then follow 1-4 again

I took it to VW in Bedford for their opinion and basically when I bought the car from VW in Sawston it was serviced before I took it away, but looks as though it wasn't reset from the 43000 service.
Hence the light coming on at just over 53000, they then reset it for me free of charge.
While I was in there I got a quote for the cambelt to be done (he said there's 2 belts and 2 tensioners?) which would be £405.95 incl parts and labour etc. but without the water pump.
He said that the price would only increase by however much the water pump is.
Also the 60K service is £202.65
Hence the light coming on at just over 53000, they then reset it for me free of charge.
While I was in there I got a quote for the cambelt to be done (he said there's 2 belts and 2 tensioners?) which would be £405.95 incl parts and labour etc. but without the water pump.
He said that the price would only increase by however much the water pump is.
Also the 60K service is £202.65

Place where i've recently had my 50k service and MOT said it would be around £200 for cambelt kit and fitting. And believe 60K service is £100.
I'm sure the parts you need to have replaced only come to around £90....excluding the water pump!

Well at Vw dealer it probably is, but i'm on about the garage i've recently used.
When i had my 40K service, it was £160 inc MOT.
I'd love to have my car serviced everytime at VW, but i can't justify the 50% or more they charge for the same work.
Plus i'm going on Holiday soon and need to save loads of cash!!!

Thats pricey for a cambelt change I paid just over £300 for the cambelt change, aux belt, water pump and the coolant being replaced at my local VW garage. My 60k service was £270 but this included getting the indicator stalk replaced, startermotor removed and cleaned and replacing the brake fluid. From reading the cost of other VW garages on here my local one seems very well priced also with great service (its Inch Bathgate I use)
