the entire boot carpet is soaking wet, i believe the problem to be water leakin through 1 of my lights, which is then managing to run down the power cable to my central locking pump (aarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr) so, has ne1 else having this problem and ne idea's on how to solve the problem and also my flooded locking pump! :shock: :shock:

this happened to me when i fitted my mk5 rears, as the seal had a slight split in it.

first thing to do is to check the seals on both lights and if they are cracked or split then replace them. iirc i ended up double sealing mine for extra peace of mind. i then refitted my lights and then sealed the inside of the lights to using a waterproof car sealent (i cant remember the name though this early) and then tested the effectiveness using a hosepipe. when i was satisfied that it didnt leak i finally put my central locking pump into a clear plastic bag and taped that up to prevent the pump getting wet again.

a year on and i have found no more water since (touch wood!!)

thanks for ur help most appreciated, it jus so happens i jus fitted 16v lights which is probally the reason for the leaks, cheers! bad news for my central locking pump, doesnt seem to wanna work at all, ne advice on wat i shud do with it?

take the pump out of the car (just pull the tubing out) and let it dry inside for a day or two. that's what i did when mine leaked.

i've bodged mine with electrical tape, been on there since the summer :D

One day my central locking stopped working.

Using a meter to test contacts came to the conclusion it must be the pump. Took the pump apart.

It was soaking inside and there were loads of blue/green crystals on the circuit board. It was so bad in places that some contacts had totally eroded away.

Replaced the damaged resistors and water proofed the circuit board with silicon gel. Worked like new again.

When I put the Locking pump back in the boot space, I waterproofed it by securing it in strong polythene and using a zip cord to tie it up.

I blame it on my mk5 rear lights. A new pump is pricey too! think I was quoted £140 odd.

I had tried drying mine out but it still didnt work, so in the end i picked up a new c/l pump for mine last summer from gsf i think for around £90, which is alot better than VWs £140 :evil:

Ive had a similar sort of problem with mine except found out that mine was the tube for the rear screen washer. It had disconected above the rear passenger seat. Sometimes my central locking does work, does ny one think this could be the cause?

I guess if you know someone with a polo and central locking, try their pump on your car and see if it works just fine.
