cup holders????

Post by Mk2Adam »

i know this is kindof a stupid post and i'm a bloke so it shouldn't matter to me but i'm getting annoyed with my car having no cupholder? i once drove home on the motorway with an icecold coke lodged between my legs and i had to stop halfway home to go to the toilet lol.

frankly i'm just annoyed with having no-where to put a drink, if anyones got any ideas it would be greatly apreciated, i thought about getting one of the modern vw cup holders and doing a custom fitting job to the bottom of the center console but any other ideas? :D

i got one from a '98 passat. its alittle hard to access the radio when theres cups in it, and i never did finish the job by fitting some chrome strip around it, but it comes in very useful 8)

you can get a removable cup holder that fits in the gap between the window and the window rubber. on a mk2 its possible to put one of these in the ashtray, but again I think it might obscure the radio a bit.

Buy a bottle instead and shove it in the door pocket.

yeh man i done it when i done the dash conversion. had to cut the slot, then i fiberglassed some aluminium brackets to the underside of it, which were then bolted onto the inside of the dash. dunno how easy they are to find though

sounds quite alot of work, plus i've still got the mk2 dash which hasn't really got much to do that kindof thing from.

i tried the bottle aproach and it doesn't work as you have to undo the lid etc lol....i just want a place to put my maccy D's drink when i'm driving is that so much to ask??? did they not have drinks in 1980's germany?

If you're a bit handy you could fashion a cupholder (or two) out of MDF and fit it in the centre console?

Or modify the centre speaker on the dash to accept a cup. For those blessed with a centre speaker of course :D

i have to say, this topic made me laugh!

i tend not to drink when i'm driving, keeping the power down in the G and drinking a drink is pretty hard

i like the idea of custom ones in the centre consol and using the centre speaker, both very clever ideas!

unfortunatly, my mk2 isn't blessed with door pockets, but i do have some rather nice speaker mounts there instead!
