God need help

Post by alexb »

I have just been tinkering with the engine on my 1.4 6N2 and i decided "lets take off the roicker cover" so i undid 2 bolts in the middle of the cover and lifted it up only to see what looked like an oily bit of a metal thing going into the cover. So im asking....HOW DO YOU GET THE ROCKER COVER OFF!!!!???? - properly

Im looking to install the k&n induction kit but havent got a clue where it goes etc.

Alex!!!!!!!!! My first question has to be - do you REALLY want to do it?
Because on a 16 valve engine getting the rocker cover off is a pain in the bum, me old china!

First thing you should know is that it's not a rocker cover. The valver engine has the usual cylinder block and cylinder head AND a cam carrier. This is your "rocker cover"...and to take it off is not a job to be taken lightly.
It's quite a chore. To do it, you'll need to take off the auxiliary drive belt, the timing belt covers, the crankshaft pulley (which is hard work) - you then need to lock the camshafts in position so you don't lose your engine timing. Disconnect the camshaft sensor wiring, remove the injector rail (for better access) and then you can lift off the camshaft carrier.
Phew.
My advice having done this is to buy the Haynes and get yourself totally read up on what you'll need to do. And most importantly, make sure you get yourself the timing locking tool - it's essential.
Hope this helps you - holler if you want further help won't you?

rocker cover!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post by paulzpolo »

firstly mr minty, what you are discribing is the cylinder head and not the rocker cover!!!

the rocker cover is the part what covers the valves and cam or cams, this is usually held on by a small amount of bolts or nuts, which is easliy removed and doesnt require any belts to be removed, if you have remove the plastic cover you should be able to see the bolts or nuts.

to fit the k and n filter, remove old air filter box and pipework, where this has been removed the k+n should fit in its place and pipework connects where the old bit use to go, you do not have to take off the rocker cover
hope this clears things up
