Has Anyone painted their gti splitter themselves?

Post by h4r1s »

I decided to buy the gti splitter, but now i need to get it colour coded, im thinking of colour coding it myself since i still have all the materials left over from colour coding my rear badge (plastic primer, paint, lacquer etc.) but im not sure :? has anyone else colour coded their GTi splitter themselves and did you get a good finish on it? or shall i just leave it to the proffessionals?

I painted mine myself , it doesnt have a third brake light on it.

I primered it , sanded then a few layers of paint then a good few coats of laquer. It looked pretty good - no one ever asked who painted it or said it was a bad job ... but when it got broke into and it needed new handles and the damage fixed it needed painted so i asked the guy to run over the spoiler with a new layer of paint , id say i my painting was just as good lol.

To paint it , i hung it up by putting screws in the underneath and hung it in the shed and spray painted it like that , each side then then edges - smooth thin coats , leaveing a few hours between them, give it a try if it all goes t**s up you can just sand it down and take it to a body shop

Spray Painting = Time, hope that kinda helps lol

Neil.

Pic of when i painted it - hard to see though

I painted mine with a spray can and it didnt come out very well. Its better to get it 2 pack painted properly with a spray gun instead of out of a can with some clear on it.

Unless youve got a spray gun where I would say take your paintcode down to halfords and get your self some.

Sand it down first to detexturise it
