Open Air confusion!

Post by LeMeph »

Hi all my first post! Go me. Ive just bought myself a swish little 1.4 open air for £750, its only done 50k on the clock and has a mint engine! A bit of external damage mind. We had to smack the rear balance out a bit so the boot owuld shut properly and it needs a new front bumper and so on and so forth. Either way the fixing is in progress and all goes well. But i digress. My question is simple. Ive been looking on the net at other open airs and theyre all 1.4 16v. Now im wondering if mine is to. It doesnt actually say so on the engine cover (or whatever that piece of plastics called) and the front plastic grill is non existant. Theres nothing on the back of the car and im seriously confused. Its only an P reg also, so well before the refurb of the range in 2000/01(?). Im having trouble locating an open air before the refurb on the net so maybe its not a 16v. So gawd knows! Anyone have an answer for me? :?

Open Airs were available on 16v and 8v's too.

The SE version was an 8v with 16v bumpers, so maybe it's one of them?

That's what a standard 16v engine looks like 8)

ah most definately an 8v now! Not only that picture but i was down my mates dads garage and my car (thats where its kept currently) was sitting bonnet open with a 1.4 MK3 Golf which also ahd its bonnet open. Same engine. Answer given *thanking heavens*. Though by your explenation kind sir mine does not have 16v bumpers... but who knows the history of my car! I sure as hell dont. Mayeb some idiot put old bumpers on there! Thanks for helping me clarify that much appreciated!
