Headlight Washers

When you're removing the front bumper, what do you do about the headlight washers with regards to disconnecting them?

Basically in a nutshell, how do you do it

I'm getting the front bumper re-sprayed, and that's the only thing the guy didn't seem 100% with?

The washers are not connected to the bumper. They are mounted on the front cross member so you shouldn't have any problems. Although you will have to remove the washer covers by pulling them up and simply uncliping them.

So the covers just pull up and unclip, cool.

I take it because they're not connected to the bumper nothing else needs to be disconnected?

just pull out and remove the clips, there is a guard under the bumper that attached to the subframe, and another 8 screws watch you dont scratch the wings when you remove it and refit

That's up to the sprayer, and if he does he'll be spraying them as well

oh and make sure he spray them aswell otherwise they might not match, as I found out

I've just had mine resprayed for Â£120 which included some light damage repair.

That's not too bad then, I've been quoted Â£150, that;'s including a bit of repair work and sorting out what the last people missed.

First he said Â£130 then he says ah, actually if we're taking the bumper off and the grilles out then it will be more.

I was thinking oh great here we go, then he says you're looking at Â£150.

Â£20 extra

I was quoted nearly Â£300 from some bodyshops in my area. Guess what- they didn't get the job!

Not suprised, I unfortunately paid a stupid amount to get my front bumper smoothed.

They did a fairly good job, but I won't be going back with their prices

I payed 150 to smooth the bumper and fill the half moon bit in my bonnet and to spray the whole lot, but that was all removed, but remeber buy cheap buy twice, as I found out its already starting to crack,

I always ask to see their work to try and judge if they are any good or not. The place I used had just finished painting the shell of a Golf which was being modded for a twin engine conversion the results were impressive. Most places I spoke to either did different levels work for the enthusiast or a quick makeover for the trade. Most seemed to be up to their necks with insurance work and didn't want to haggle for cash.

This guy sorts the vans for my work (Anglian Water) does classic car restoration as well as modifying.

He's got a hot rod in there at the minute prepped for spraying

There was also a Range Rover Sport in there, so I'll trust him to do a good job.

He did say he done a bumper for someone and wouldn't let it out because he wasn't happy with it, he said the bloke might have been but he wasn't.
