Removal of coin tray/drinks holder.

Post by lilpee123 »

I have lost no end of bits and pieces behind my coin tray and have just tried to remove it to get my stuff back

I undid the 2 torxs screws but still cannot remove the trays? Any ideas?

Regards

you will need to take out the climate control/ air con switches and actually undo the centre console around the gear stick etc

then there is a u shaped cover that goes underneath the drinks holder and a torx bit in the glovebox to get this off. there is then another 2 torx bits under all this that secure the back of the drinks holder/ coin tray...

have fun! it took me a while the first time when i was soundproofing and laying cables!!

You get get 3 screws out easily....of the 6n2 coin tray.

2 underneath the unit - easy.
1 by taking the trim part off below it which can be done by unscrewing a screw in the glovebox, then the screw becomes visible.

Now, I am really stuck on the last screw which is on the drivers side, does anyone know how to get this off simply? it is at the back of the unit??

Any ideas?

Cheers

Cheers for that, managed to get it out! Now for putting an iphone dock into the coin tray slot....

Seen loads of different attempts across forums. some look really smart. Does anyone know of one that would fit perfectly? links?

Cheers

The double cup holder, is that only from the lupo GTI ?. I think the coin tray is stupid :-/. I never use it and the one time I did my money fell behind it lol.

Little update and this is the way I did mine hassle free.
Thanks to Sixen for this one.
sixen wrote: There are 4 torx screws, 2 near the front, 2 at the back, these are buggers to get without taking other bits off first. you can do it though if you remove the torx screw holding the panel that runs underneath the coin tray, drop down the glovebox and the screw is in there, also if you take the one out just up by the steering wheel height ajuster you can bend the panel out then and with a bit of fiddly screwdriver work you should be able to get the one nearest the drivers side out, other wise you will have to take out the whole section under the steering wheel to the glovebox :S
