my daily drive is polo saloon, still has 1043cc engine. but fitted with a weber 36tlp (by me!) and pipercross filter.
i want some guidance: please tell me if i'm wrong!!!
-got a nice low mileage 1.4 8v, this should bolt in on the mk2 mounts, cost £65!
-got a 5speed, 8p-code, gearbox. cost £15! do i need a later gear linkage?
-i believe the 1litre dizzy will bolt on to the 1.4 head & has vacum/centrifugal advance which can be adjusted
-have weber 32/36 carb too (£6.50!)
-need a suitable inlet manifold, to port and polish
(but am considering a set of sukuki gsxr carbs)
-will need a better cam! tempted by a used gt cam for reasons of cost, or should i bite the bullet and shell out £200?
-have golf gti front brakes and 16v master cylinder to go on too cos my stock brakes are scary!!!
any help gratefully recieved!!! ps i am on a very tight budget!
mk2 1.4 project, need advice

what size gixer carbs? im fitting cbr 600 carbs so as not to over fuel and are a close fit so i dont have to get a manifold made n just use a alluminum plate. best bet is to save up for a ashley exauast manifold and mod exaust. b4 u change cam. or you wont allow the engine to breath enough to apreciate piper cam..when you change the cam it is recomendable to change the followers as well. hope this is of some use.

the royal mail delivered my bike carbs this morning! they're 38mm jobs, which look massive compared to the standard ports! but 40mm webers are often used on polos
gonna be building my own manifold with nice straight runners from steel cos i can't weld ali! there is a miss-match in the port spacing/carb spacing, but i'll sort that out with a little port matching! i saw a pug 106 which had ali stubs welded direct to the head for bike carb fitment. might investigate this?
