(newbie) - I can't find the engine number on 1996 Polo

I've just brough this car over from Dublin and am trying to register it in the UK.
One of the things I need for the DVLA forms is the engine number.
I have the vehicle reg/chassis number but I can't see which might be the engine number when I look under the hood.
There are a couple of numbers but any writing next to them is in German!
Does anyone know what format an Engine number will be in or exactly where it will be.

I have a number called 'engine code' in the original owners handbook 0 '6N1 0B4'
I also see a number on the engine - 'AEV 0089 902'
There is another number on the body at the front of the engine, close to the chassis number - 64R 009 4001'

I know it's probably a daft question - but any help would be greatly appreciated.

6n1 is the polo model....thats as much as i can help you, but its something better then nothing lol
