Yeah mate, same engine as S3 basically. As you say S3's had different map, ECU etc. Also had different turbo i think and possibly some other bits.

Have a look underneath at the back to check if it's a Quattro. If you see a big diff/Haldex unit then you'll know it 's a Quattro.

The early 150/180bhp 1.8Ts have a ko3 turbo so max 200bhp from a remap, the newer 150/180s after 2001 ish had a ko3s which is good for 230bhp and the S3 has stronger internals with lower compression, a k04 turbo, bigger injectors, a 3" air intake compared to the 2.5" on the ko3/ko3s and twin side mount intercoolers which is good for about 280bhp from a remap.

If you get the engine code I can tell you what turbos in it (chances are its a k03). To check what power the car is putting out as standard look under the boot carpet and there is a data sticker with the power in kw, 110kw is 150bhp, 132kw is 180bhp if you've got 180bhp its a quattro as they only did the 180 in 4wd you can confirm this by checking for a diff at the back and drive shafts to the back wheels.

Looks like you got a cracking example though with low miles

Phill get some photos of the engine, youll find out quick enough if its the s3 engine.
Sorry that's wrong too. The S3 is a 1.8T.

Older ones had 210bhp newer ones had 225bhp.

V5's are 2.3.
That is true, but i think that the 1.8T can still be classed as a V5 because it has 5 valves per cylinder.

Nope sorry. That is also incorrect. Because a V5 means 5-cylinder.

The same way V6 means 6-cylinder.

5v not v5

Post by Beerzo »

If you look at the below engine covers you will see that they are 5V not V5. Yours will be mount transversely though not like the A4's above that are longitudally mounted.

The car should have a quattro badge on the grille and under the 1.8t at the back and one on the passanger side of the dash inside (or is this just A4s)? Yeah but the full proof way would be to look under the car for a diff at the back, or even better check the V5 document that will let you know exactly what it is. Is it a 1.8T Sport?
Should see 210-225bhp easy.
This is optimistic for a 150bhp if thats what it is. As Del said earlier 190 give or take is more accurate.

O just to ruffle a few feathers. Welcome to the upper-crust motoring side of VAG.

Couple of heads up for you.

If your chiping it I would uprate the dump valve first as it wont last long at all after chipping as they aint meant to be taking that kind of boost.
If your not running one already get an N75J valve. That should free a few horses by increasing your boost slightly.

O and if your selling your wheels let me know I might be interested in them.

Should be a hell of a lot better for the increase in price! They're really nice cars and would love to own one myself.

As for 125mph in 4th..........i managed 117mph in 4th in my GTi. :P I was well chuffed.

Alright Phil,
Sorry to hear you sold the polo but opting for the audi is a choice move. Sold my GTi a while back and got a TT 180 Quattro and haven't looked back. The Polo was a great car but the build quality and effortless power of the turbo are fantastic.
Anyway enjoy.................

yeh, you got stopped at 117 by thr redline tho, i got stopped by my balls. I recon it'll do 130 in 4th easy. The 180 1.8T does 151mph apparently.
